ABOUT BGCNAL

Step inside any of the 11 Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama, and you will find something magical:  young people learning and connecting with caring adults.  You will see children completing their homework; teens researching colleges or planning a community service project; club members running, jumping, laughing, having fun and improving their health at the same time.

For more than 73 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama (BGCNAL) has been in the forefront of youth development by helping to strengthen communities.  BGCNAL has actively sought to enrich the lives of boys and girls who have had difficulty being reached at other youth agencies. We are dedicated to ensuring our community’s disadvantaged youth have greater access to quality programs and services that will fulfill our mission: to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

In a world that has never seemed more threatening and devoid of promise for a disproportionate number of America’s children, BGCNAL provides a tangible measure of hope. The Club offers young people what they need and want most: adults who respect and listen to them; a safe environment where they can be themselves and have fun, interesting, and constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits.

All BGCNAL programs are based on a youth development strategy which underlies all Boys & Girls Club programs and fosters senses of belonging, competence, usefulness and influence, building self-confidence and self-esteem.

BGCNAL is part of a nationwide organization that is working to help young people of all backgrounds develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. It is facility-based, employs 17 paid professional staff supplemented by 46 part-time staff and/or volunteers, and offers daily access to a broad range of programs in five core program areas: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.  With the measurable outcomes focus on Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles

Yearly, we serve more than 7,000 boys and girls including those at risk who benefit from the programs, activities and services we provide.  They benefit from trained, caring, professional staff and volunteers who help young people take control of their lives, envision productive futures and reach their goals.

There is no other organization available that provides a foundation where GREAT FUTURES START.
