Arlene has always had a quiet strength about her.
She has been part of the Ardmore Boys & Girls Club for four years. During that time, staff have watched her grow from a thoughtful, creative child into a more confident young person who is learning to use her voice.
Arlene has a natural love for art and animals, and she brings that same care and creativity to the people around her. She is often one of the first Club members to lend a hand, whether she is organizing art supplies, helping a younger member learn a game, or simply making sure someone feels included.
This year, Arlene has also begun stepping into new experiences. She joined the Club’s jewelry-making program and summer volleyball team, giving her opportunities to develop new skills, build friendships, and challenge herself in different ways.
But some of her most important growth has happened through SMART Moves.
Over the past year, Arlene has learned how to better understand and express her emotions while building a stronger sense of self-worth. Where she once might have hesitated to speak during group discussions, she now shares her thoughts with confidence and encourages others to do the same. She is learning to identify what she feels, communicate it in healthy ways, and feel comfortable being herself.
That growing confidence is evident in the way Arlene carries herself and interacts with others. She remains the kind, encouraging young person Club staff have always known, but she is increasingly willing to step forward, try something new, and let her voice be heard.
Arlene’s journey is a reminder of what can happen when young people have a safe place to explore who they are, develop new skills, and discover confidence in themselves.
At the Ardmore Boys & Girls Club, that is exactly the kind of growth we hope to nurture every day. America Needs Club Kids. To support children like Arlene, please visit bgcnal.com/donate.
