Sometimes, getting back to the Club means getting back to yourself.

For 16‑year‑old Camaron Logan, the Club has been a second home since he was six. He’s the kind of kid everyone knows — quiet, humble, and always smiling — but put a ball in his hands and he lights up. Sports weren’t just something he did; they were who he was.

Camaron dreamed of becoming a professional athlete, and he was well on his way. He ranked in the top 20 in his class in both football and basketball. But this school year, everything changed. A devastating injury — a broken leg in three places — sidelined him for the entire year.

It wasn’t just a physical setback. It was an identity shift. Without sports, Camaron struggled to feel like himself. Physical therapy kept him away from the Club after school, creating even more distance from the place that had shaped him for a decade. Our staff worried about how the loss of his athletic identity might affect his mental health. We didn’t know if a return to sports was possible, but we did know he needed support, encouragement, and a reason to keep showing up for himself.

That’s when staff member Jerome Primous Jr. stepped in. Through the Club’s Healthy Habits programming, Jerome helped Camaron understand that healing wasn’t just physical — it was mental. Every day he showed up, even when it was hard, was a step toward rebuilding both.

Eight months later, during Spring Break, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama hosted their annual basketball tournament. And that’s when we saw it — Cam’s soft smile, the one we’d been missing. He led James A. Lane to dominate every club in the area. He played like he hadn’t missed a single day.

He may have lost his first varsity season, but after going undefeated in the tournament, Cam summed it up perfectly:
