Emily is a vibrant and determined 9th grader whose strong personality and ambitious dreams make her stand out. She dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and competing in track and field at the Olympic level. Just as important, Emily hopes to help others discover their purpose and recognize their own potential. But her journey has not always been easy.
One of Emily’s biggest challenges was the pressure to fit in. In trying to find acceptance, she sometimes found herself influenced by the wrong crowd and losing sight of who she truly was.
With support from her parents and staff at the Boys & Girls Club, Emily began learning how to respond to challenges in a more positive and thoughtful way. She also credits her growing relationship with God with helping her stay grounded and focused on the person she wants to become.
One of the most difficult steps was letting go of unhealthy friendships. Through that experience, Emily learned the importance of forgiveness, both for others and for herself. She also began surrounding herself with people who encouraged her to grow.
That growth is showing up in every part of her life.
Emily has earned A/B Honor Roll, joined First Priority, and was recently named Student of the Month at her school. Club staff have also seen a noticeable change in the way she handles difficult situations. She has become calmer, more thoughtful, and more intentional in her responses.
One moment last summer showed just how far she had come.
After a disagreement with another Club member, Emily was visibly upset with herself and sincerely apologetic. In the past, she might have brushed off the situation. This time, she took responsibility for her actions and wanted to make things right.
It was a small moment, but an important one.
Emily’s story is a reminder that real growth happens when young people are given support, encouragement, and the opportunity to learn from their experiences.
She is discovering who she wants to be, building the confidence to make better choices, and moving toward a future filled with purpose.
We are proud of the young woman Emily is becoming and excited to see where her determination takes her next. America Needs Club Kids. To support children like Emily, please visit bgcnal.com/donate.
