At just six years old, Preslee has already faced challenges that no child should have to endure. A student at Johnson Elementary School, Preslee has been a member of the Ardmore Boys & Girls Club for two years. During that time, she has not only found a place where she feels safe and supported but also discovered joy and healing in the midst of very difficult circumstances.

Preslee’s story is one of strength and resilience. She and her sisters moved in with their aunt a year before the heartbreaking loss of their mother. Even before her passing, the transition into a new home and routine came with its own challenges. Then, when her mother died, Preslee carried with her the deep pain and confusion that comes with losing a parent at such a young age. Despite everything, Preslee has shown remarkable courage and has slowly begun to find her footing with the help of her family and the Club.

Her aunt and caregiver shared how the Club first became part of their lives:

"When Preslee and her sisters came to live with us, I needed a place for them to go after school and during the summer. My mother reminded me that when I was a kid, I went to the Boys & Girls Club. As soon as I remembered that, I knew that was the place for the girls."

At the Club, Preslee has found more than just after-school care. She has found a second home. Here, she is surrounded by caring staff and friends who provide stability, encouragement, and comfort. She is able to laugh, play, and simply be a child again. Whether she is joining in a game, working on an art project, or spending time with friends, Preslee has discovered a sense of belonging that helps lighten the weight she carries.

Over the past two years, we have seen Preslee open up in new ways. She

is beginning to express her emotions more freely and is learning that it is okay to share her feelings. The Club has provided her with consistent love and guidance, and that stability has helped her rebuild her confidence and trust. Day by day, she is becoming more comfortable, more joyful, and more connected with those around her.

“I love my club and all the things we do. The coaches are nice. I am happy to have my club friends.” - Preslee

Preslee’s journey reminds us of the powerful role the Boys & Girls Club plays in the lives of children. For Preslee, the Club is not only a place for fun and friendship but also a place of healing and hope. She is learning that even in the midst of loss, she is surrounded by people who care deeply for her and believe in her future.

We are honored to walk alongside Preslee and to be part of her story. She is a shining reminder that even the youngest members of our Club can teach us about courage, resilience, and the power of community.

Together, we can ensure more children like Preslee find hope, healing, and belonging at the Boys & Girls Clubs. To support children like Preslee, please visit bgcnal.com/donate. *All stories have been approved by children and their parents, or guardians
